GB Railfreight operate short-term gpysum contract from Hull Docks to Kirkby Thore
Freight Train*Gypsum traffic on the Settle-Carlisle Line took an even higher profile during Summer 2002 as GB Railfreight operated special freight services transporting a cargo of gypsum from Hull Docks to British Gypsum's plant at Kirkby Thore, just north of Appleby.66708 was used for the driver training and for many of the services. The northbound loaded working is seen approaching Settle station.Gypsum is normally transported by EWS, another railfreight company, from Drax Power Station near Selby to Kirkby Thore. It is a by-product of the desulphurisation of the fumes. This was the first railfreight to return to the line after the proposal to close the Settle-Carlisle line was defeated.
